PAUSE, REWIND, WEAR OUT
DISTORTED MEMORIES
During my final year as an undergrad, I had the opportunity to study abroad in the Netherlands. The only camera I brought was my cell phone and a Diana F+ film camera and film I had been given the year before for Christmas. During my time, I took many photos and made numerous memories. These memories were solidified more by a playlist my friend made while we were there that I listened to on repeat. I still have distinct memories of exactly where I was biking along the streets of Maastricht when certain songs played. When I came home, I was crushed to be back, but also that my memories would only fade more as time went on. I used the film I took and some sketches I had drawn, and I just kept warping, distorting, and altering the image until it was nothing like the original photograph. I took these and made them glitch to continue to give that feeling of deterioration.
